Has anyone used the bumGenius cloth diapers? Good or bad experiences? Any other brands you would recommend? (Preferably ones that do not require you to buy the flushable inserts -like gDiapers- we're trying to cut costs as well as be enviro-friendly.)

Thanks

I have about 8 bumgenius diapers. I haven't used them yet, since my little guy was too small for them when he was born, but plan on starting today or tomorrow. I will let you know how i like them.

Hi Shannon,

We have 3 different kinds of cloth diapers, but now use the bumGenius one-size exclusively (the g-Diapers and Fuzzy Bunz that we had were newborn size). I love bumGenius - I find them easy to use and they fit my daughter well, and since we're using the one-size, hopefully they'll work for us throughout potty training. I'd say that we have leakage about once a week, which I think is about as good performance as you can expect from any diaper! My daughter almost never gets diaper rash, and I think the material is a lot nicer on her skin. My day care doesn't mind using them at all, since they're really just as easy for them to use as disposables would be - they just put the dirty diaper into my wet bag instead of into the trash. The company recommends using hot water, but I just use warm water and dry them on a line or rack, and they get nice and clean. (I feel like using hot water sort of defeats the purpose if I'm doing this in part to help the environment!) If you get stains, just hang the diapers and inserts outside in the sun and they become completely white again.

Best of luck! I love using cloth diapers and hope you do too.

My friend uses bumGenius and loves them! (I use prefolds myself)
I just wanted to recommend the promotion by Jillian's Drawers - where you put a deposit down to try many different brands of cloth diapers (Bum Genius included!) to see what works best for your baby for 21 days. They keep $10 of your deposit if you decide after the 3 weeks that you don't want to keep any that you have tried. (They do also resell these as gently used if you are also looking for some bargains!) Check them out:

Good luck!

i *definitely* recommend the bumGenius over all the others i've tried (happy heiny's, fuzzy buns). the velcro closures are WAY better than the fuzzy buns snaps and they don't leak. and i like that they come in one size (although i agree w/the other woman: i'm not sure they'll last for a 35 lb baby). i highly recommend you take a look at jillian's drawers, they have a trial program that you may be interested in. http://jilliansdrawers.com/store/clothdiapers.html

good luck!

Hi Shannon,

We use them, along with a bunch of other brands, and overall, I like them a lot! I would also recommend Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heinys, Drybees, and Haute Pockets. We tried a few of each kind and then bought more of the ones that fit the best. They all work well, but I'd choose haute pockets as my favorites because they fit the best (for us). Bumgenius actually are a bit small on my 25lb baby, even though they say they go to 35 lb, so that's why I'd recommend trying different kinds. If you really want to cut costs, you can find them used online too (diaper swappers is where I look). Hope that helps!

I tried Bum Genius diapers after reading some glowing online reviews but they didn't work so well for us. My baby likes to sleep on her side, and they leaked big time. It could be because I didn't wash the diaper in the right detergent - you can't use regular detergent, only the specific obscure brands they mention on their website. I also expected cloth diapers to be softer and the elastic to be gentler on my baby's skin. The one size fits all design is really cool but the fit wasn't so great, every baby is shaped differently though so maybe they'll work better for yours.

We use bum genius but only when others are watching the baby because they are easier to use. We use Mother-ease regularily and prefer them over the other diapers we've tried. Bum genius leaked, but I was able to find a simple solution. I still prefer the Mother-ease. Good luck!

I use G diapers

http://www.gdiapers.com/

I love them,
they are so easy to use,
I use a prefold insert tho instead of the disposable insert,
never had any problems and been using them for 2 years.

never had to buy extra liners, they last longer than the 6 months, 2 years so far and going strong LOL

And the flushable is made from tree, so it is enviornment friendly.

Which I only would use on say a long car trip, because it beats carrying a smelly diaper all around niagra falls for a week LOL

M

OH and what I like the best is that you don't need to swap diaper covers I use one per day, and just change the liners.
which are much smaller and easier to clean, and change
it saves on laundry.

I have used Fuzzy Bunz, Bumgenius, and prefolds. I like both the fuzzy bunz and Bumggenius, for different reasons. Now that my son is 7 months old and incredibly squirmy and unhappy about being changed, I'm not sure I could do those Fuzzy Bunz snaps as easily. But I am skeptical that the Bumgenius will last until 35 punds as they say. I am already on the last setting. In any case, I just ordered some fuzzy bunz mediums and more bumgenius myself. I don't think you can go wrong with either and would certainly recommend the Bumgenius to anyone who asks.

I like fuzzy bunz for my toddler but I sometimes add a hemp insert to the fleece one that they provide for extra absorbancy.

I use Happy Hieny's. They work well for us because our baby has really chubby legs. They have a looser leg I was able to save a bundle by buying used.
