I was woundering the safe age to put my son in a booster car seat (backless). He's 14 months and weighs 26 pounds. All the seats say 30+ pounds. I just want to be safe with him.

What can I do next?

Please do not put your 14 month old in a booster seat. He is WAY too young. If you have financial issues about buying an appropriate carseat for him please contact your pediatrician. All pediatricians have resources for people with low incomes to find safe carseats for their children.

This is a great resource for any parent wanting to know if their child needs to be in a carseat or booster seat......

(go to this website and then click on "New child safety seat law fact sheet" - you will need Acrobat)

He should be 3 years old, and 40 pounds. There are a few boosters out there that are rated for 30 pounds,(one backless off the top of my head, and a few high back) but there is no way a child as young as your son should be in a booster anytime soon. It would be best if he was still rear facing!! When he does move from his car seat (most only go up to 40 pounds, but really the more important factor is height, esp in his torso), he should move to a high back booster with 5 point harness. You have some time before you need to do anything! :)

Hi my name is S. and I work at the babies r us in brookfield and carseat are just one of my areas. As for your question the answer is no your child needs to be in a carseat with the five point harnness till he is about 4 years of age. this is because till then they are not big enough for a reg. seatbelt to protect them. the law in wisconsin is that all children need to be in a carseat till they are 8 AND 80lb.... yes they have to be both. i hope this helps

No It is not safe at all!!!!!!! , A child should be In a regular car seat with a 5 point harness until at least 60 lbs.or 5 years old and should be in a booster until around age 8. That is actually state law now. so My advice buy your baby a regular 5 point harness and put your 7 year old in the booster. If i sound a little harsh I'm sorry, A friend lost her three year old son in a car accident a few years back he was in a booster and The doctors said if he would have been in a 5 point harness car seat he would have survived. his 6 year old sister was severely injured and that would have been prevented if she was in a booster.
