Birthday Party Suggestion - Cortland,IL

My daughter's 5th birthday is coming up & she is having a Disney Little Mermaid theme.

I have some stuff planned already--blue streamers & balloons throughout the room to resemble an ocean theme; Pin the flower on Ariel's hair game, princess bingo, a pinata, and each girl will have a wand to decorate. Lots of fun for 5 year old girls!!

Well, she has since decided to invite a couple of the little boys from in her preschool class who she has become good friends with. I will not deny her that, but now I have to figure out how to incorporate boys into the party. I was thinking of letting the boys decorate a sword while the girls decorate their wands, and I'm sure they won't mind the games. I assume the parents will realize the theme of the party since they are Little Mermaid ones bough from Party City.

Any suggestions???

What can I do next?

My son will be turning 5 soon as well and he likes the Little Mermaid. He'd be happy to decorate a wand (magicians use wands and they are often men, not to mention Harry Potter) and he'd also happily play the other games that you mentioned. I don't think you need to have different activities for the boys.

Boys at this age aren't really going to care.

They will enjoy the games and I think they will like the sword idea ( just make sure the boys dont start to sword fight with them when they are done... I could see my boys doing that lol). If you have party hats for the girls maybe get prince crowns for the boys.

When my son was 5 he would have wanted a wand too and anything girly - he loved girly stuff then! So, I guess it depends on the boys. You could have the boys decorate a "staff" if you want to avoid sword play. You could give them all sea stars (starfish) for Areil's hair. Pinatas are fun for everyone. It all sounds good to me.

I like the swords idea, and also agree with the caveat that they may start a sword fight later! Also, you may want to get a few extra swords. One of my daughters would definitely choose that over a wand if she had the choice (she's a tomboy!) - so if you have that option, there might be little girls who want to do that too. I think overall you don't have to worry too much. Little boys that age are generally okay with whatever little girl theme might be going on!

The swords sound fine, maybe also do pirate hats.

I LOVE the Little Mermaid; have fun!
