Just wondering if any of you have some ideas for a teenage girls birthday party ? My daughter would like to have more than a family party - she has mainly all girl friends (a few boys from her school) but that is somewhat limiting (can't have a sleepover obviously, unless she takes the boys off the list). If you have any ideas - while trying to keep the cost down, we would appreciate it. Thanks.

*her birthday is in 19 days, but I could have a party even the week after if need be, if I need more time to plan

What can I do next?

Well, do a backwards party, everyone do everything backwards, or some kind of fun theme. Wear a funny hat or headband, favorite sports team... what does she like to do? Bowling parties, skating, there are so many things. You can have a sleepover just have the boys leave at an appropriate time. Music, fun snacks or something like make their own food, like a taco, hot chocolate, potatoe bar..... or decorate their own cookies or have teams decorate a big cookie..... I could go on and on... but my brain gets going and it does not stop. Have a great time.

No ideas for including boys, but my girls (twins) just had a great party with pizza and swimming at our neighborhood pool and then they all came back and made cake balls. It was time consuming, messy and hilariously fun :) As I said, not quite sure the boys would enjoy that one :)

My kids are allowed to invite 2-3 kids (boys and/or girls) to an "event" of their choice. Something like movies, lazer tag place, bowling, bounce u, mini golf, water park, pool party/bbq at our house, etc. and we still have a "family party" on a different day. Good luck!

my granddaughter had a mary kay party for her 13th, and had about 4 other girls, thats a good amount for this age, to many and you lose the closeness and its hard to keep them all happy because someone may feel their not fitting in with the others as well. anyway this is a good age when the girls are wanting to start wearing a little of the makeup stuff, and the mary kay lady was ask to just introduce them to the importants of face care and some lip gloss, cheek color, and a little eye shadow. The girls loved it and mary kay gave the girls a free pack of stuff. then they did fix your own pizza, they got the camera out and had a fun photo shoot of friends having fun. enjoy

We've done Build a Bear and CoCoKey. We've also done a dance party at the community center. We rented a room for a few dollars had cake and ice cream and iPod with a playlist of popular and favorite songs to play. Ask your daughter what she wants. I would have never thought my daughter wanted Build a Bear as a party option. But they all had a blast and did exactly what the little kids do at the party (I have pictures to prove it). You could have a pool party at the Y...they have an indoor and outdoor party and it is inexpensive. We did a luau and the kids dressed for the occasion and we served hot dogs and chips, and played "Hawaiian" type games. Hope this helps some. Good luck and God Bless.

At that age, I rented a room at a hotel for mine. They let us use the pool to throw the party for friends and family. Then, we went back to the room for a slumber party with just the girls. It was really fun and memorable.

Do a pizza and sundae party. kids can have music set up to dance, maybe a volley ball or bags set going. then let them all make their own pizzas and then sundaes. lots of fun.

or pick a movie (any movie she likes)
have the kids all come dressed in character for the movie. (think star wars or harry potter or lord of the rings etc) the kids can come dressed up and put on a play or have a fashion show. you will be amazed that sometimes the boys are more into this than the girls are lol
good luck

We invite everyone to the kids parties. The boys don't sleep over but if the girls wanted to we extend that invitation to them. Keeping costs down is easy when you keep the party simple. Determine your venue or if there is going to be a theme. Get her input on what she would like to have for her party. I do things like tricked out nachos with cheese, chili, salsa, tomatoes, guacamoli, sour cream. When you plan in advance, many of these things can be purchased and stored for party time. Getting them 1 or two at a time helps save the budget.

You could keep it even more simplistic than that. In my family we are all about the cake and ice cream (mainly the cake). So we would take the kids to someplace special at a discount and then we go to our house for cake.

Mostly for the teens turning 14 and up we leave it up to them about what will happen.

It is helpful to have a budget set aside for the party and work backward from the X dollars and getting everything done within that amount. Again she will be turning 14 it is time to get her involved in money management. Perhaps she can earn some money to contribute towards her party. It will show she is growing up and becoming more responsible.

My kids pay for our superbowl party which is a wonderful food fest. They even cook and invite their friends too. It is awesome.

My daughter wanted a dance party at 13.

You can do this MUCH cheaper than what we did but.... we had it at the country club, light buffet with make your own ice cream sundae, DJ dance floor, prizes and contests with the DJ. We have about 75 at this party. We don't do gifts either....

We had a fall/Halloween similar to this except in our back yard with a DJ, finger foods, and soft drinks. For this party, I spent about $500 including the DJ. There were about 120 kids at this one.

If you don't get a DJ, use an IPod or IPhone on a speaker and just shuffle the music. We gave prizes for dance off, best costume, etc.

Depending on how many kids you have.... we ALWAYS hire an off duty police officer to just be around in case someone chooses to get in trouble somehow. If anyone leaves the party for ANY reason, they do not come back. This helps keep them from bringing in anything they should not have (alcohol, etc)

Enjoy!

Around here everyone is invited boys and girls and then the girls get to stay if they want and the boys are picked up. Or vice versa if its a boy's party.

Mall shopping spree with girlfriends - party in the food court.
party at your church's 'hall'
night time bowling
putt putt
beach party

If it were only girls I would also suggest a spa party, which you could do at home (mani/pedi, DIY facials, etc.)
