I have a 6 month old and a 22 month old :) Our 6 month old has recently started not sleeping well/ having a hard time falling asleep with out crying for hours in her perfectly. crib. Up until two weeks ago she's slept throughout the night and fallen asleep perfectly. We are hoping that something in there with her might help. Any suggestions or ideas on anything would be much appreciated!!

Both of my boys had a stuffed doggie (longer than a teddy bear and not so round, and the head doesn't get in the way). When they'd cry out, I'd just shove it up against their tummy into their arms. What a lifesaver!

I started this when I noticed that they'd startle themselves right out of sleep as newborns. So I got them the doggies to grab at when they'd startle to keep them from grabbing their faces (you know how it is!)....it works like a charm! My best friend also started doing the same thing with her babies...it's become tradition to give a stuffed doggie as a baby gift to all of my friends.

Best soother for 6 month old is Mom's arms. Allowing small babies to cry for long periods of time is nothing more than socially acceptable child neglect. Please read the latest research before you are tempted to let her cry it out tonight: http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/fussy-baby/science-says-....
I have 3 children, the youngest 2 are 20 months apart in age, so I know how sleep deprived and mentally exhausted you must feel. My middle child did not sleep through the night until past 2 yrs of age so my husband and I had several months of getting up at night with 2 children. Honestly, parenting is hard and it is 24/7 without weekends and holidays. It's the hardest job I've ever had. Please know that these sleepless nights are not going to last forever, but if you respond to your children with love and attention, you will someday reap huge benefits as your children will likely become more secure and trusting adults.
Your 6 month old is likely teething. Try a dose of motrin or tylenol tonight and see if you can catch a few more zzzzz's before she needs you. Nurse Midwife Mom of 3

6 months is a growth-spurt period. Hence, baby gets hungrier, more often and needs more intake. Hence the need to nurse/give Formula on-demand... in order intake keeps up with baby.
Solids at this age is not as nutritionally dense, as breastmilk/Formula.

They also may start teething at this age.
They also, are hitting many developmental changes and hitting milestones at this age.
They also start to get 'separation anxiety' at this age. My kids did.
Hence, many things going on at the same time, for a baby.

Sleep in a baby or child, is never static. It always changes.

Other than that, my kids as babies, liked the Fisher Price "Ocean Wonders" crib toy.
My son, also at that age, had a Lovey. It was something that HE just gravitated to. His stuffed cow. He started to, at that age, just always dragged it around and liked to sleep with it.
My daughter as a baby, never 'adopted' a lovey.

My kids as babies, and at that age, had GINORMOUS appetites. I nursed them on-demand, 24/7, day and night. They needed it.

Maybe she's hungry? Growth spurt? Getting a tooth? Having bad dreams? Needs a night light? Doesn't like a night light? White noise? Music?
Maybe she just needs someone to cuddle with her??

When my son was a baby, we had a little carousel that would go around slowly while playing soft music and displaying designs up on the wall. My son absolutely loved it and would fall asleep within minutes!! My husband, being a brainy engineer, actually hard-wired it so we wouldn't have to keep putting in batteries. I would definitely try soft music. Good luck! I know how tough it can be!

Around that time my mother-in-law bought my son this:

I didn't think it would work because we had a sound machine that never worked on him previously. He loves it. When he was 6 months, he would kind of relax with one of the sounds and then when he was 7-8 months he started to cuddle it. By 9 months he could turn it on himself and at 13 months he still likes it. He doesn't carry it like a blankie (my 5 year old always loved his blankie and still does - I should have named him Linus).

Good luck! C.

All three of my kids have music in their cribs since birth!! You turn it on and it plays for about 10 minutes. You can even get ones that have a remote so you can turn it on without going into the room. My kids LOVE theirs and when they get old enough they turn it on themselves. I swear by it! Either the Ocean Wonders Aquarium or something like that.
