Beech Nut Babyfood?

I don't remember using it myself, but I noticed that The Sneaky Chef, a book I got as a gift, recommends it (the author is the editor of Eating Well magazine). She said that they use good ingredients and have high quality standards and have similar pesticide standards as organic. Also, she claims that some organic lines contain things like modified food starch, added sugars, etc., which Beech Nut does not use. Plus, they're inexpensive and you don't have to go to Whole Foods.

I have tried them all-I loved Earth's Best, I did a few Gerbers Organic here and there and I did do BeechNut after 6m.
Truthfully-you can't beat the price! I felt for little trips out it was small, still practically the same ingredients, and overall my son ate it! I am not so picky just wanted as wholesome as I could get and afford.

Hi L.-I have research food, holistics and natural remedies for years--be forewarned-a food company can label there food as natural and can have a whole host of chemicals secretly put into that "natural" coin termed to make it appear that it is better for you. Stick with the Earth's Best-it is one of the BEST out there.

A product that is labeled organic has to meet specific criteria--some companies won't even use the USDA organic label because it is to lax and again-a government funded agency-Eden Foods goes above and beyond any recommendation of "organic" by our federal government. The label "QAI" is much harder to obtain (so is the Oregon stamp) because their standards are so high. I would never buy commercially traded food for any of my family-

I am a mother of four and just recently had my 9 week old and will be preparing all of her food from scratch-we have been totally organic for 7 years now and reaping the wonderful benefits!!

They do have some organic versions, but they are specifically labelled that way. The regular ones are not organic but they do use less fillers and chemicals than Gerber, and taste better too!

This company's been around for 50+ yrs or more. My three kids (now 13-18yrs) at it regularly. Not organic, but soy-free cereals and gluten free products. Check out their website.

If it's organic, it has to say so on the label. If there is no symbol saying organic or it doesn't say organic on the ingredients, it is not organic.

i highly recommend getting "super baby food" the book and making your own. It tastes so much better and IS better for your baby. the book is a great reference, even well into toddler and preschool years! also ck out this website:

I wouldn't HIGHLY reccomend Beech-nut over Gerber. We make our own food and use the jarred food. The Beech-nut brand tastes more like real food, and our daughter loves it a lot better. They offer some really great flavor combonations and label Breakfast and Dinner fooods. My daughter loves the cinnamon raisin granola breakfast food the best (stage 2). Also if you compare Gerber and Beech-nut banana coookies, Beech-nuts actually smell and taste like a banana.

Organic food is not all that important. People ate regular food since history began. It doesn't extend life or do anything cruitially different. I don't understand why people waste money on all the "new method" things on the market. Your child will be just as healthy on regular Beechnut or on your own cooked and pureed foods. Relax and spend time on just being close with the child. Good luck

If it's organic it will say so on the ingredient label on the back. Beach Nut is not.

I use a lot of Beech Nut baby food and rarely use anything else. With my first daughter I tried them all, and I found gerber to be watery and the organic to be hit and miss. I tried Earth's Best also and found a lot of them to be too thick. My son is now on the Beech Nut and I have been very pleased with the quality of all the foods. I don't believe the Beech Nut is organic. Some organic has a tendency to come out odd colors or different textures. I hope that helps.

I gave my son some beach nut food b/c sometimes gerber did not have the food that braeden liked. i dont think that its organic or it wouldnt be so cheap... i think they're just saying its made from natural products not processed fruits and no added sugar.. I DUNNO haha neways i hope that is somewhat helpful!!

Yes, I have bought/tried Beechnut, although like you, use Earth's Best. I bought the Beechnut out of convenience (Jewel doesn't carry Earth's Best but I didn't know that at the time) because I didn't want to make a secondary trip. I do not think it's organic or it would say so on the label. Thus, the fruits and veggies they process are not free of pesticides etc. That is my understanding/belief...don't know if it's accurate...perhaps you can call the company direct to verify? It's 1-800-Beechnut. I would be surprised if it was and they chose not to market it that way.

On an aside, my son didn't seem to like this brand as much as Earth's Best, though it's hard to tell if quality/brand was the real issue.

ps. One other thing, I read it's better to buy jarred baby food vs. what comes in plastic containers (ie. Gerber Organics) to avoid PVC issues. Another reason I like Earth's Best...covers both bases.

I'm not sure if the Beech nut brand is organic, but figured I'd ask if you've considered making your own food if you're concerned. I did it with my son and now my daughter and it's not nearly as difficult or time consuming as many people think. It's actually cheaper and you know exactly what your child is eating. Let me know if you have any questions. I'd be happy to tell you how I did it if you're interested. If not.....please don't think I'm being judgemental, just trying to help.

I would recommend that you try beech-nut. I used only Gerber products for my son (just figured it was the best out there?!). This time with my daughter, I have been more "experimental" per se. What I like about Beech-Nut is how it labels all of its foods. My son has several food allergies and I am afraid to feed my daughter certain foods.....at least this way if she reacts to something I have a better idea of what it is. I also like the fact that they seem more natural. Good luck, but you should be just fine :)

Hi! I used beech nut when my son was eating baby food and preferred it over Gerber. Beechnut is not organic but it's natural, meaning look at the ingrediant list for Gerber baby food and beech nut. I used Earths best and Beechnut, no Gerber.

I fed my son "Earth's Best"...The Beach Nut then...2 years ago now...wow time goes fast...was not organic. I also cooked organic vegtables and blended them, no salt or extras, and he loved them as well.

Beech-Nut has been around at since at least the early eighties. (I remember my little brother eating it.) I think when it comes to baby food, organic is always a good choice, but with non-organic, you should just check the label to make sure there's no added sugar. The ones labeled "dessert" are the ones to watch out for.

When you consider the amount of pesticides in produce organic is very important for a developing child if you can get it. Miejer sells Earth's Best and they also have their own organic label brand that is a lot cheaper. I'm not sure if they have their own brand of organic baby food or not but I wouldn't be surprised. They tend to have great prices, though. Anyway, the only way a product is organic is if you see the Certified Organic seal on it. If not, it's not. Cheers!
