My son is very active He learned to pull himself up to stand last week. Giving him a bath is difficult becuase he is constantly moving around and flailing and trying to stand up. He likes the bath but it is like holding on to an octupus in the water.

Does anyone have any advice.. Would one of those bath seats keep him contained?

What can I do next?

Hi Lisa -

At that age I normally got into the bath with my kids even with a tub seat. As they got a little older I started putting a rubber bath mat in the tub to help the slipping issues then ran the shower and washed them up that way. They still take showers and I never had the fear of them slipping under water or getting stuck in the seat. Hope this helps - S.

I also used the bath seat from Safety First. Our daughter loved it - she could sit up and use her hands to play in the water. I got it from Babies R Us - not sure on the price. It is one that clamps to the side of the tub - which I didn't care much for that part of it.

Of course I still sat right next to the tub to watch her and be within arms reach. She never fell out of it or slipped out.

I've always used, and loved, the bathseat from safety first. It has a bit that 'clips' onto the side of the bath. It has always done a good job at containing and yet letting me 'entertain' my 4 kids. Infact the one seat has been used by all of them until last month! LOL

Definitely get the bath seat by Safety 1st. My son used it until about 2 years old when couldn't fit in it anymore. It is one of the best baby gear items on the market.

What worked for us was the blow up ducky bath. I don't know who makes it, but it is just a little blow up tub that fits right in the bathtub. That way he is contained but still feels "free" to splash. My son used it until he was about 2.

I love our bathseat. My daughter is now 13 months old and still uses one. We don't have a bath mat in our tub so I still use the chair. She loves it! Eventually I'll take it away. Probably very soon but I got it when she was 6 months old. I truly love it. It's worth the 24.99 at Babies R US!! Try it out and good Luck!

My daughter is the same way and we are still using the bath seat to contain her. She kind of likes it, actually. If we are somewhere other than home, we usually have one of us get in the tub with her to hold onto her while the other one does the scrubbing. She is just too wiggly otherwise...and it can be scary!

I never used a bath seat and just lay my little on in the tub on his back. He loves to kick his feet and splash around. Kids can still fall over in the bath seats and they can give a false sense of security to the parents. Mine got hurt bad in one of them, when I went to get the towel that I forgot, it was only 6 ft from the tub.
