I have an infant and an 18 month old. I'm looking for a sling that I might be able to breastfeed in as well as carry my infant around while on the go with my son. I already have a baby bjorn and looking for something less bulky. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Maya Wrap! I had 2 to breastfeed/carry my twins and still have my hands free with my 3 year old. Very comfortable, strong and baby can be easily switched to different positions. Very machine washable, as mine was washed umpteen times without a problem. Also can be used as a cover for breastfeeding/harness for an adventerous toddler/ blanket/ headrest-pillow for wobbly carseat heads/ sun shade/impromptu cover for a public rest room baby table...etc, etc Can you tell I have 4 kids? lol

good luck finding the one thats right for you!

I love my Maya wrap. I have used it with both my girls. My 20 month old will still go into when she is sleepy and we are out and about or when she wants to be held but I need to do things around the house. Another option, if you want to support local mom-business is handmade slings by From Belly to Baby. www.frombelly2baby.com She has a couple of different kinds, one is a ring sling like the Maya wrap and the other is a 2 shoulder design.

I think the Ergo Baby Carrier is the best on the market. You can use it with newborns, all the way up to children weighing 50lbs! It's awesome. they are easy to use and you can put the child on the front, back or side. They are also easy to find online. good luck.

I am getting ready to have my second and I have a 2 year old. I did extensive research on slings because I am thinking the same as you - breastfeeding w no hands. The one that for sure got the best response (and the one I bought) is the Maya Wrap. I have not used it yet (havent actually had the kid yet) but am looking forward to having it. Thought I would share in my research though. Good Luck.

The "Member Perks" link on this website is a great listing of resources. There is a website found in Member Perks call Chicken Scratch Slings. This maybe just what you are looking for.
Here is the website just in case:

Hot Slings are great for nursing in. Another carrier would be the Ergo. Both work great for me.

K.,
I wouldn't buy a baby wrap. I didn't like mine at all. However some people loved theirs. I used mine all of 7 times. And I had it with all three of my babies. If you are bent on getting one, I'll sale mine to you for 10.00. That way if you don't like it you won't be out 30.00 like me.
Blessings,
R.

I really liked my mobywrap for this. zolowear pouches are nice too - maybe not as easy and not as versatile.

You can get them lots of places.

Try www.gypsymama.com My friend got me a wrap from there & I love it!

I have a 21 month old daughter & a 7 1/2 wk old infant. Traveling with them can be a challenge, but I'm getting the hang of it. I had a Snuggli & only used it a handful of times.

When I first got the Gypsy Mama wrap (Bali Breeze model) I was hesitant & it did take a couple of practice runs around the house for me to be confident enough in my wrapping skills & the strength of the material. Now, both my son & I love it. It's sooo much more comfortable than the Snuggli, easier to use, & easier to through in the wash. When my son is fussy I just wrap him up I walk around doing household things. It's great. The booklet that comes with it shows many different wrapping options, including nursing (but I have not gotten around to trying it yet).

I hope this helps. Good luck!

There is a company called new native that has a sling that isn't very bulky. I have one a friend made me and it is just like the new native ones and I loved it. I carried my kids in it until they were older than two. It says on their website you can carry infants and children up to 35 pounds. The website is: www.newnativeinc.com
Good luck in your search.

Hello K.,

Several years ago I found a sling that you carry the baby in front of you. I purschased it for a dear friend that was having her first child. I did not like the ones that you carried the baby on your back because you could not interact with your child. I found it at Target. Good luck.

There's a great sling that will enable you to do just that. It's called the Baby K-Tan. All my friends use it and love it. I have used it with their babies and much prefer it to 2 different types that I used with my kids. (Baby B'jorn and the Infantino Sling) I will be getting one for the baby that I am expecting now and can't wait to put it to lots of use. Also, I believe that you can use it until the child is even past the "sling" stage because it secures them in a hip style hold, too. Good luck!

Over the Shoulder Baby Holder sold through La Leche League. It's the best and comes in different sizes just like Moms! I breast fed my kids in it while walking around the grocery store and no one was the wiser! It was awesome. And you can use it when they're toddlers to wear them on your hip and still save your back and be hands free. It's roomy enough to pull around the baby for the privacy you want while breastfeeding. Good luck!

I second the mayawrap! I loved mine. As long as you have it on correctly it is super comfortable. If it's not comfy, you don't have it on/adjusted correctly. I carried and breastfed my 10 month old around Sea World all day and never had any discomfort from the sling. And they don't have padding so it doesn't add bulk or make you too hot!

My babies are 21 months apart. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my wrap. It is a very comfortable way to carry your babies, even for long periods of time. My daughter nurses, sleeps and stays happy as can be (she's colicy) in the wrap. I got mine from a great gal who makes and sells them locally and has tons of great fabrics to choose from. She also sells other matching items. The hooter hider is a must have for nursing in public. I would recomend getting this also! Her website is loveyduds.com. Good luck!

I used a 2 ring sling that was lightweight and easy to cove rup while BFing. I got it at http://www.rockinbabysling.com/ (which also has some other styles you may like. They were a bit pricy on this sie but I really likes the choices of material and the quality was very good.
It took a little time to learn how to use, once i got the hang of it it was easy and very versatile.
You can also do a search for "ring baby sling" to find other stores that sell them.

I have a Moby Wrap, which I love, in addition to two baby bjorns. The moby wrap is well suited to breast feeding and carrying up to 35 lbs. I still carry my 18 month old, as well as my 5 month old. It's really easy to use with the booklet you get and there are a lot of different holds so you can find one that's comfortable. I really like the hip hold with my oldest son, and the hug hold with my youngest. I have also dealt with new native and they are a WONDERFUL company that really cares about their customers. I know a lot of mommies who love their carriers as well.

When I was BF my son and out shopping, I would put my daughter in the shopping cart, or she would have to stay right beside me, and I would use a sarong (or beach wrap) to cover myself as I fed my little man. It was unobtrusive, covered me and looked great, I had other moms in the same stage telling me it was a great idea. Some didn't even know I had a little one under there....

I would tie opposite ends together and then sling it over my shoulder. I had to use one arm to hold him, but it worked.

Have you heard of wraps?

I sell Moby Wraps and you can check out more information about them at www.mobywrap.com. I love mine that is why I started selling them. People would see me using it and ask me where I got it. Because it was so great for me, I wanted to share the find. The best part is that you can have both your hands free and the baby is snuggled down close to you. You don't have to worry about their head floping back. Also the straps don't dig into your sholders because there are no straps. Most baby's love being so close to mommy that they just sleep peacefully.

I do advertise on mamasource but if you want to contact me my name is D. Sutter ###-###-####. ____@____.com are $39.95.

There are a lot of great products out there and I wish you the best finding the one that works for you.

"Slinglings" are wonderful--I just carried my almost-2-yr-old in it while he slept at Disney World, and used it while he was smaller as well. They come in different sizes so that it fits comfortably and it even has padding around the bottom so that baby's legs and your hip have padding against them. Miracles Maternity Boutique, in Gainesville, carries them.

Ergo baby carriers are amazing. They're made in Hawaii so you would need to checkout their website (just Google ergo baby carriers). The people are really easy to work with and I had to return part of my order and there was no problem with it. The best thing about the ergo is that you can carry kids in it, not just babies. My friend puts her 4-year old on her back in the carrier. Knowing that you'll be able to use the carrier for numerous years and with both of your children may help you to choke down the $100 price tag. The website claims that it is better for the kids spine than the Baby Bjorn, but I use the Bjorn when I need to just run into a store and use the ergo for longer walks. The ergo is MUCH more comfortable for long treks.
Hope this helps!
