I have put off buying a baby monitor because of all the pros and cons and not being able to decide which one to get. Does anyone have a prefrence or recomendation? I wanted the one with video but have read nothing but bad reviews. Help before i waste money on a bad choice.

What can I do next?

I want to tell you the most wonderful monitor that I have found. It is the AngelCare motion monitor. I found it gives me the best piece of mind. It detects motion and is a monitor as well that is extremely sensitive. So it gives you a bit of a piece of mind. I also have heard such bad things about the video monitor. Well I hope this helps.

I have the Safety first baby monitor from Wal-mart; ONLY $15, but it is sooo sensitive that I could hear my babies breathing! I had also thought about the expensive ones, and have had some regular monitors that were expensive, but I found this inexpensive one to be better. If you get a video monitor, I think it would be too easy to worry more, but I have personally never had one. I worried too much as a first time mom, but it soothed my nerves just to hear them breathe!

I have used the Summer video monitor. It has been knocked off the shelf by my oldest but still has worked great. I currently use it for my second child and we have been very satisfied.

I also have the summer hand held color monitor. Honestly I wouldn't know what to do without it. We can always see our little girl when shes in her crib. I've had friend who got other ones and when they saw how mine worked they returned theirs. Good luck!!!

I just ordered this monitor and it should be delivered this week. If you look it up on Amazon, there are a lot of great reviews. There was one review about someone picking up noises from another house that had the same monitor and that is a risk with ANY monitor since they are all wireless. I posted on this a few months ago with "video monitors" being the request name, you can try finding it. I found this monitor from one of the other moms and I liked that it was portable with a bigger screen, 2.5 inch as opposed to 1.7 inch. I wish I could tell you for sure if it was a good buy, but I won't know until next month!

We have the Summer Infant video monitor as well and love it! Being able to hear your little one is great, but nothing beats being able to see them. We still use ours for our 3 year old and have a second one we will be using once we stop co-sleeping our our 7 month old. The monitor can give off some static (like many of the reviews I read), but we just move it a couple inches and it gets better. We live right by the Clearwater airport and notice the static is worse when air traffic is heavier, but still not bad enough to not recommend this monitor.

I didn't get one with a tv screen but i did get one that plays music and it has a lightshow that goes on the ceiling. the nice thing was that I could be in my roon (or any other room with my remote) and push a button to turn on the music and/or lightshow. If my son would wake up in the middle of the night I would turn on the music and he'd go right back to sleep. I didn't have to go in the room to start it up (then he'd see me and get up in his crib). Ours was by Fisher Price and I think it was the Soothing Dreams Baby Monitor with Sounds and Lights.
There are so many different ones out there but we loved this one because of the music and not having to be seen by him to turn it on. Good Luck

I have bought many monitors, and the one I love the best is the fisherprice brand. It was only $29.00 at the time, and it has a long antenia, which is the only thing I dont like about it. I live in an apartment so every monitor I bought picked up phone conversations, and everything else under the sun. Some even interfered with my tv, and phone. Fisherprice is great, I have owned two different ones, the one with the long antenia and the little one, both in the same price range.

I have to share my drama with baby monitors. When my son was born, I thought all monitors were created equally...WRONG!! Our first monitor (don't remember name of it) was horriable and picked up EVERYTHING in the neighborhood and had alot of feedback..so we thought more expensive meant better so we purchased a video monitor where we could watch our son..was horriable! very fuzzy and could never see a clear picture of him in his crib! Finally my friend told me about her monitor and that she never had any problems with it. It was the First Years 49 MHz and was only $28.!! We reluctantly bought it thinking "how good can it be for only $28 when we just spent $199 for one and it was awful"? Let me tell you that it is the BEST monitor we've ever had!! It comes with two receivers so I keep one in our bedroom (we still have it now for our daughter) and one in the living room and it's great because they have belt clips on the back so my husband can clip it to his shorts when he's outside working in the yard and I'm not home. They sell these at Target (they are not at BabiesRUS). You will NOT be disappointed!! Let me know how it works for you!!

You said you heard bad reviews on ones with monitors...well let me give you a GOOD one...

I have the Summer Infant NIght and day Handheld monitor.

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2265802

copy and paste that link into your browser and find the description and various other reviews.

As for MY review- there is nothing more relieving than clicking on the video in the middle of the night and seeing my daughter laying there sleeping. You can control the volume and turn the video either on or off--even in a pitch black room I can still see in her crib- it has night vision I guess- while at night the screen in not color like it is during the day, scientifically it is the reflection of light that makes color so naturally in the dark there IS no color to reflect.

I think this is worth every penny!!

We bought the Summer Hand Held Color Video Monitor and love it. It's cordless, so you can tote it around with you, and recharges overnight when it's plugged into the mains in our bedroom. We have it pointed over the crib so we can always see what the little guy is doing. We wouldn't be without it.

We have the Summer Infant video one too and it has been great. Static comes and goes if it is near a phone or remote, but that is to be expected. Haven't had the problem of seeing other babies or anything. To sum it up, we love it and it very useful if you have a two story home.

If you need help deciding on a product, go to www.Epinions.com or www.amazon.com. I usually go to Amazon first, write down a few that sound good, then go to Target.com or similiar site, check the reviews there for the same products, then decide. In my experience, a monitor is a monitor. They all pretty much do the same thing. I got the cheapest one on the shelf since we didn't have money when I had my son, and it worked just like it was supposed to: I could hear every breath he took for the first 3 years of his life and didn't sleep well again until I was finally able to say goodbye to it when he was 3. haha. ;-)

I also like the summer hand held video monitor. I have used the same one since my two year old was 4 months old and still use it for my 5 month old. I LOVE knowing if he has pulled a blanket over his head or if he's stirring w/ his eyes closed or if he's really awake. The video part has seriously been plugged in for like 2yrs non stop. I got it on ebay, but it wasn't that much cheaper than if I had bought it at the store. a good investment!

I got one that just receives sound. It actually lights up to how much sound is coming through...then I read the best advice ever...if they baby needs you..you will hear him/her...I have lived monitor free since then and guess what my baby is now almost 1 1/2 years old and I can put him in his crib worry free. The problem with the monitor is that I put music on when he sleeps and the music would come through on the monitor. I have a good size house, but I still hear him when he is awake or has trouble falling asleep.

We have a video monitor and love it! Our daughter is 2 and we still have it up in her room. I think the brand is safety first. It also came with a sound only monitor you could use if needed although it really eats up the batteries.

When we first set the video one up we had a little trouble with reception but after playing with it a bit, it was fine.
