Baby Diaper Genie 2 - Grand Prairie,TX

I love my Diaper Genie II, it is easy to use and never stinks. I am a mom of 5 month-old twins and between both of their dirty diapers, we empty it maybe once a week and have never smelt anything. (Oh and each replacment ring of bags lasts us about a month). There is even a cutter inside the Genie to cut the plastic bag to tie off, no need for scissors or anything else. Just cut, tie a not in the ends and you are done. Good luck!

I had the Diaper Genie when my daughter was born and when she turned one, we tossed it for the Diaper Champ. It's much easier to use and I really like it much better! You can get it at Target, Wal-Mart, Babies R Us, etc. for around $30 or less. You use your own small garbage bags, so you don't need to buy the expensive refills a;l the time.

I've tried just about every diapering product made out there and have found that they all cost a lot of money but end up with the same stinky substance.
What I've done to remedy. We flush poop in diapers down the potty when possible. Then wrap in plastic store bag or those little blue bags sold by munchkin (very helpful to keep on hand in the diaper bag for potty or spilling accidents). Then I place in our huge covered trash can in the garage. No diapers stay in the house anywhere.

I like my origional DG just fine ... serves the purpose of keeping the dogs away.

We have the Genie 2 and have been pleased with it for the most part. I never notice an odor in my daughters room. The only time it gets smelly is when you put another diaper in, because you open up the seal. I think we change our refill about once a month (they are $5.00 a piece), but my daughter goes to daycare so every diaper is not put in the Genie.

My husband bought the Diaper Genie 2 right after we had our little boy and we didn't like it. It's supposed to twist the bags for you and fall to the bottom of the trash, but it would never work right so we ended up throwing it away after a week. It was a waste of money.

I don't have any experience with that one. I had the original one. But my opinion is that all things made of plastic after a short while absorb the odor so it's not worth getting those things. I just throw the diapers in a plastic bag and toss it in the can outside right away.

well, I never tried the Genies - heard too much bad about both and the expense.

But I have the diaper champ by baby trend and like it quite well. It uses regular trash bags (not special bags) and I have found it to work quite well. The stinch is surely held to mostly inside the pale (apparent when you open the canister to take the full bag out) and it was cheap enough for me. It is easy to empty and put new bags in. I air it out (in the opened position) outside between uses as often as I can and I also may put an air freshner stuck to the inside of the pale or put baking powder in the bottom on occassion to help soak up any oders.
It doesn't take up much room or use any electricity. My husband and I think it works well. Some users think a plain rubber-sealed stainless trash can would work just as well, but we have that type of kitchen trash can I think this works much better, esp. for this situation!

I tried a couple different types but wasn't totally pleased with either. What I ended up doing was putting each diaper, wet or dirty, into a zip-top sandwich bag and it pretty much elliminated my odor problem.

Haven't tried the one you're asking about but wanted to also recommend the Diaper Champ. We got lucky and found our's at a garage sale in mint condition for $2 :-) We just spray a little Lysol in the can whenever we change the bag (also we buy the kitchen size trash bags that have the odor controller in them not sure if its Glad or Hefty) and we change about every 3 days since we have twins. Very rarely do we have any odors.

I think that if you have a giant bag of poopy diapers in a small room, it will start to reek no matter what. However, we took some measures with our second child to combat the problem. Since I was also babysitting a kid his same age, I was doing double duty on the stinkers. It seems like there have been a couple new versions of the diaper genie out. We used the Diaper Dekor with my first (almost 4 yrs old now) and it didn't really contain odor that well, plus the refills were only sold at Babies R Us or online. I got the new diaper genie for my son and the key to staying odor-free has been the "toddler" liners because the plastic is thicker. Also, I use those blue diaper sacks for added odor defense. And, as he's gotten older and his poops are more solid, we change him in the bathroom and dump the business in the potty. He enjoys getting to flush and I'm hopeful that it puts us a step closer to potty training! He is nearly 2 and we haven't had an odor problem.

I havent tried the #2 model but did have the first one. It was such a waste of money and like you said stinks to high heaven. I can suggest what I did...I got vanilla scented 4qt trash bags from Wlamart Market (I think the bag of them is like 1.98 or so)and we just tied up each dirty diaper in that and put it in the trash and you never could smell them. You may want to try it we found it worked better than anything else we tried and very cheap too!

We had a diaper genie 1 with our eldest and it was a big pain. for #2, we currently use the diaper champ, and it has been much better -- you can use any kind of plastic bag, you don't need to buy their expensive bags -- and there is this sliding handle thing that keeps it shut when you put a diaper in, so that odors do not escape. however, when you take out the bag, odors would still come out, so we just spray a little 409 in a new bag when we put it in, or a sprinkle of coffee grounds, and the odor is controlled just fine. if you use smaller supermarket plastic bags you are changing the bag every day or so -- but this turns out to be a good thing. :-) and it is very easy to change, nothing to cut or twirl or anything like with the diaper genie #1. hope this helps! :-)
