My friend is going to have twins and I'm hoping to get great recommendations and input from other moms of multiples, so I can get her the best one out there. Or did you receive any other gift that turned out to be especially helpful? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I don't know about carriers, but I do want to recommend a great feeding product that helped me immensely with my twins. It is a bottle called a "Podee". Google them, they are amazing! It is a bottle with a tube-like straw that comes up to a cap and nipple so that babies can drink out of their bottle while sitting up in a boppy. Helps with reflux, too!

You are a very thoughtful friend.

Personally, the baby carrier just wasn't something I wanted.

What I really could have used? Help. My husband worked long hours and he drove most of the day, so he needed sleep (didn't want him wrecking and lazying around a hospital getting meals and baths...that's sad when you see a hospital as a place of rest, huh?). We didn't have any family available to help me with the twins and I was exhausted.

Another gal mentioned help with cleaning and a dinner round-up, I completely agree. I would take it one step further and offer to come over or set up a group of people who can rotate so that the new mom can get some rest. Really, just having some rest would have been enough to give me some pep.

Just a thought. Have a great day!

I don't have twins, but I love my carrier, and it would also work for twins. It is called a K'atan.... you will find it easy if you Google it.

I have twin boys and tried them in the moby wrap when they were young, but found it incredibly uncomfortable and they also hated it. I can see how it would work if the babies were really small, but I had two seven pound babies and since I had already carried them around for 9 months and could barely walk at the end, well, I was not up to carrying them both at the same time at all. That said, though, your friend might have a different experience. I looked into the maxi mom twin carrier, but it didn't seem to have waist support. In the end, we decided to get an extra Ergo carrier for when my husband or mom or whatever was with me and carry them that way. Or, I thought I would always be able to carry one while the other rode in the stroller if one was unhappy. They actually rarely cried at the same time when they were infants, which was good. Anyway, that's just my take...

When mine were small I just wore 2 simple slings and crisscrossed them. After they got a little bigger I carried one at a time and alternated because two of them was too much for my back. I tried on a friend's double carrier but it was really uncomfortable for me so I wouldn't recommend it.

Above all, I think the best gift you can give your friend is HELP. Don't wait for her to call you and ask . . . call her and say "when can I come over and give you a break"? And keep calling regularly as the babies get older. We had lots of people helping over the first month or so, and then most of them disappeared. My husband and I were SOOO tired, and even just an hour break here and there makes a big difference.

I used the Moby Wrap when I started out. I could put both babies in or wear one at a time. It also is one size fits most, so my husband could wear one or both too! When we were out for a while, we used a snap n go double stroller. It allows you to put your infant car seat in the stroller frame not waking the babies and it folds flat and compact so I could leave it in the car. A true lifesaver in the early days when I needed to get errands done and the babies were always sleeping. (I kept my Moby Wrap with me so if one woke and started screaming to nurse, I could nurse the baby in the wrap and nobody would notice I was doing it while shopping!)

Sleep deprivation is the most difficult. So serious help around the house, preparing meals, throwing in a load of laundry, etc are all greatly appreciated. I was able to do it all after the birth of my first child, but when the twins came along it was far more difficult even being an experience mother. If your friend has a child(ren) already, preparing playdates and time away or one on one time for them is a lifesaver too. They are dealing with not just a sibling, but two and mom or dad literally having both hands full. They quickly feel neglected and misplaced and need extra attention during the first 4-6 months to adjust.

I never got the hang of babywearing my twins but from what I've heard from other moms in my multiples club, the "twin" carriers like the MaxiMom are more complicated than they're worth and good single carriers like the Ergo were preferred.

Things I found useful were The Ultimate Crib Sheet by Basic Comfort (snaps on top of a regular crib sheet - easier to change than a fitted sheet http://www.amazon.com/Basic-Comfort-Ultimate-Crib-Sheet/d...) and the Halo Sleep Sacks https://www.halosleep.com/.

I started with a Moby wrap which I was able to wear both babes till they were about 6 months. It made nursing and skin to skin very convenient and discreet. After that I switched to 2 Mei-Tai types I used the brand Maya wraps when by myself (SAHM) since I could wear one on front and one on back. This has lasted up to now, they are three. I got tired of carrying the bucket seats plus diaper bag, which I picked a backpack version. I didn't do a messenger bag or purse style since to me they were un-wieldly and I disliked the off balance feeling. I never got into a double stroller I liked and I tried several, but I did by a double bike trailer/stroller from Bumble Bee at a bike store. There is an infant adapter to make it easier for infants to sit without being in a bucket seat (only used when not on the bike) Trailer did fit bucket seats. I liked using it as a stroller because it wasn't as wide as traditional side by sides and had room for carrying stuff and cover for in the rain. I hope that helps.

As for other gift, setting up a dinner train, setting up people to come over and help clean and give mom the opportunity to shower and take a nap (especially once they get older like after 6 months).

I'm more than happy to answer any other questions you might have.

I don't know that a baby carrier is all that useful for twins to be honest. I think a good singleton carrier like the Ergo or the Bjorn is a better choice. When I was alone on outings with my twins I had them in a double stroller. At home I might wear one twin around the house but not both. We had two carriers so if my husband and I wanted to take them out without a stroller than we just each used a carrier.

Also, the Double Snap and Go stroller is super useful. You can just snap the infant car seats on. Very helpful when out and about with twins.
