Anyone Elses Kid Sick with Cough for a Long Time Right Now? Ever Try Zarbee Med?

We use Zarbee's. My son says it tastes bad (it is a honey-grape combo that really does taste weird), but I hold his nose when he takes it and he is OK with it that way. It works a bit, but not any better than a teaspoon of straight honey in my experience.

And yes, my son is in daycare and has had very few days this winter where he's NOT coughing or nose running. It's nothing horrible, no fever, very mld symptoms, but it does seem to be neverending. If you notice a fever, it's worth a trip to the doctor.

It didn't work for my son. he has the three months cough and zarbee didn't help at all. The cough sometimes caused by the dry air, pollutants and allergic. Since we use air humidifier, it helps a lot. I also massage his left chest and one time,when I gave him milk, suddenly he threw up lots of mucous. Give it a try, the left chest from his side, not yours.

I have used Zarbee, and still use it regularly if needed. It helps with the tickle cough, but not with the deep (stuff coming up from the lungs). It's basically just honey and zink.

If the cough is not the annoying tickle cough but rather drainage from his nose, the Claritin has really helped my son in the past. It can be used with Zarbee's, so you might try them both together to see if your son gets some relief. It will take about a day to see any progress.

If not, and his cough continues to be really bad, he might have an infection. Chest coughs often are, and then you need an antibiotic. Good luck!

My whole family has had a cough for months now. My son did have pertussis (yes we were all immunized and got boosters too) and had a resisitant strain because one round of the z-pack didn't fully get rid of it. OUr schools seemed to be fulled of kids with Pertussis (whooping cough). The NY state dept of health actually called me and advised that my whole family be treated as a precaution. We did and so we don't think we have pertussis. On the other hand whooping cough is called the 100 day cough...

my son had a cough since the beginning of december... no temp and he wasnt coughing up anything... but i knew the doc would say it was just a virus blah blah... finally took him in 2 weeks ago and he was prescribed a steroid and atb and the cough went away but he only got the scripts because he had the cough for so long...

My son has had a cough since Thanksgiving. We've been to the Dr. twice and will go back again shortly to rule out allergies, asthma, etc. So far the medications she has given us have done nothing. Honey, cough medicine, humidifier, Zyrtec, Singulaire - nothing has worked yet. We haven't tried Claritin so I might give that a shot next. My ped friend actually thinks it has become a habit for him since it's a very dry cough and he doesn't cough at all at night.

It was finally starting to go away a little on its own and now suddenly he's back with the runny nose, sneezing, etc. It really has been endless this winter.

There is a long-lasting illness going around. Locally it runs about 2.5 weeks. DD and I both got it and were coughing for a long time and poor DD was so stuffed up. There's so little you can do for a 3 yr old. We used vicks rub, humidifiers and kept her hydrated.

Me and my kids have been sick for 3 weeks now. My 13 moonth old daughter got her cold a week after me and my almost 4 y.o. Son did. We are very congested so everyone has had a very wet cough and we are all mucusy. Yuck. You should see my boys face from rubbing tissues across it... It's so red and sore. He went thru 2 whole boxes of tissues this week. My cough is finally starting to subside. Earlier in the week, I was coughing so hard I almost threw up from gagging. We are slowly getting a bit better. My mommy instincts didn't kick on telling me to take everyone to the doctor. Been there before and I knew that he. Would just say to keep me hydrated and keep doing what I'm doing (thanks for your $30 co pay). I couldn't do anything for the baby but give her Tylenol of Motrin. For my son, I usually give him Hylands cough and cold meds and it usually helps, but not this time since he was so super congested. It's going around everywhere.

I've been coughing since Christmas. Does this stuff work for grownups too? :)

we had the same situation as AMANDA but my son has asthma like issues so we always take him in right away if he can't kick a cold on his own. the steroid and antibiotic really helped. he was better in a couple days. he had an ear infection too :( take him in and see what the doc says. i;m sure the teething doesn't help either! hope you're getting some sleep! i know we werent ;)
