Any Ideas on Where to Find a Baby Gate for Bottom of the Stairs

I don't know if this will help, but you may want to try www.onestepahead.com they have all sorts of gates. Maybe they will have something that will work for you. I know they have a soft gate, maybe you could rig it up to work for you? When my guy was first mobile, I just used a dining room chair in front of the stairs. It only worked for so long, but it's a suggestion. It depends on how mobile he is.

A little about me:

I am 43 and have a 2-year old daughter.

I have peronally not done this but I have seen them before. They make those gates that are metal and you can buy extra pieces and have it fold a gate around the stairs. Instead of just putting one across the bottom of the stairs put it around the stairs to block off the stairs and then you can just open the gate door to the stair. I know that I didn't explain this very well but I hope that you could follow me just a little. Good Luck.

hello! They do have a kind of mesh gate that mounts on one side and then extends to the other, but i'm not sure how it all fastens up. Look in BabysRUs definitely. I have just a normal wooden pressure gate on our stairs because of banisters at both sides and I didn't want holes drilled into them. Hope you find something!

I have the same situation. What I did was buy a doggie gate (it is higher than most baby gates and was on sale) and drilled into the metal banister at the top. I used pressure mounted stuff on the bottom because the distance was different than the top. Also, it can swing up for cleaning. Hope this helps...E.

I had this exact problem but from the top going down! We ended up getting the Eddie Bauer wooden one (I think it was like $30 at Babies R US) Then for attaching it to the banister... my husband got a 2x4 and cut it to the height of the banister then drilled holes in the 2x4 and attached it to the railing with zip ties. Then it was nice and easy to attach the gate to the 2x4 instead of trying to deal with how to attach it to the iron banister. I hope that this helps you a little. Try Babies R Us and look for a gate made by KidCo. It should also have an iron railing atachment. I used one for the top of my stairs where I have wrought iron on both sides.

One Step Ahead is my favorite site, however if you want something same day I suggest a baby store. Just Google One Step Ahead and it will take you to the site. We got ours at Babies r' Us. It screws into the wall and latches shut. It opens in a swinking motion. It works well for us and the kids can't get it open on their own... my oldest is 3.

My husband created a contraption with a piece of wood and some curved metal pieces that he attached to the railings and then secured the gate to that. If you want, I could send you pictures. There are places that sell these contraptions but I'm not sure where. That's where he got the idea but determined that he could build it for less than they were selling it for. Email me if you want pics.

My husband and I built up one side of our railing, which is wood so I know that may not help you. But you can buy attachments at like Lowes or Home Depot that at the plastic ties that may work but I am not sure how safe that would be. Maybe look at Babies R Us and see what they have. I know the last time my husband and I were in there the selection of gates was very large.

My husband took a piece of wood and rigged it to our banister so the gate would work.....we got a wooden gate that slides in and out.....it worked really well. Hope this helps!

I think I saw a solution for than at One Step Ahead, the catalog company. For us, my husband put wood between the rails and attached hardware to the wood. If you want more info on how to do it, message me and I will write more. Can't type much with two kids whirling.

i've not ever seen any mesh gates, but i have seen a wide assortment of gates at wal-mart, lowes, and babies r us.

any local Walmart will have the gates. They cost approx. 16.00. Good luck!

I have the same thing at the top of my stairs, we simply had a gate custom made out of the same materials as our banister, and it worked very well until she learned how to open it! She is now climbing up and down the stairs like you wouldn't believe. Good Luck!

check out www.babycenter.com -- they have several gates that are made specifically for the top and/or bottom of the steps.

we have a pressure mounted gate at the bottom of our steps -- one side is the wall, one side is the iron banister. the pressure mount is very nice. no holes in the wall.

Babies R Us also has one or two gates for the steps.
