Hi Moms! I was a Special Ed. teacher for eight years and I have a Bachelor's degree in Special Education and a Master's degree in Education. I loved teaching but, wanted to stay at home with my girls. I have subbed and tutored over the past five years but, now due to child care restraints subbing and tutoring are difficult. I would love to find a good work at home job. Does anyone know of anything that would work with my situation? It doesn't have to be education related just something I can do to make a little income and still be able to be at home with my girls. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Hey there! You'll probably get a response from EVERY person who has a Home Based Business so I apologize up front but will share my story anyway and you can analyze all your options! I was in the same boat about a year ago and wanted more than ever to stay at home with my daughter. I went over every company and weighed the pros and cons and then I started selling Homemade Gourmet in addition to my full time job to see if I can make it pay enough to quit my full time job. It was not a decision I made lightly. A lot of research was involved! So far its looking good but I'm still in the building stages. I think what I have decided is that if you are going to do a home based business it has to be something people NEED over something they WANT. Economic times are causing people to eliminate things that aren't essential like expensive make-up, kitchen supplies, jewelry, etc. I like Homemade Gourmet because it food. Everyone needs to eat no matter how tough times are. HG focuses on saving the families grocery budget and even prepares meal lists and shopping lists to save the customer as much as possible on their family meals. It's a neat company. The mission is "With God's Help, we strive to bring families back to the dinner table..."

Good luck to you and I hope you find the perfect HBB for you. If you want more info. let me know. I'm in Bolingbrook. The starter kit for HG is $39 but I have it all if you wanted to glance at it before you decide anything.

Hi C.,
Good for you for being lucky enough to stay home with your kids. I have been lucky enough to do the same with my boys.

I have a business that allows me to continue contact with other adults while staying home and still helping people (I am a former social worker!).

I have my own Shaklee business - we have a wonderful start up program. I love what I do because part of my "job" is to help moms start businesses in order to help them stay home with their families while still contributing to the household income.

Let me know if you are interested. We have tons of things that you can do right at home (in your jammies if you choose).

I'd be very happy to share more about what I do and how to get started.

I read your other responses and I am sure you will get more. I am not a stay at home mom, I am a teacher who just wanted to make extra money. I just became a Lia Sophia advisor and love it. I make 30 percent of my sale in cash, so for instance, I did a party in July and made 360 for a Saturday afternoon. Not bad, not all parties are that big, I just did one on Sunday and made 100$, not bad either, just extra money for savings. Now I will tell you why I started with Lia Sophia, I have an addition to jewelry :) and I get great discounts and this was a fun way to make spending money! I recommend this to people who are outgoing! I am not a pushy person, just easy going and that seems to work for me. I also recommend this to people who know lots of people. when you first start out, you have to build up clients, my friends and family have had parties and I have met people from there and they had parties and so on. You make your own schedule, it is flexible. If you are interested at all, shoot me an email, we can talk more! ____@____.com and if you choose another route, I wish you all the best!

They just had a segment on GMA yesterday morning about this. They had an individual who wrote the book "Will Work From Home". Great tips on the segment and I guess the book gives suggestions and helps you weed through the scams. One of the features was of an online-tutoring company. You can tutor right from your home computer for $10-15/hour. I was going to go buy the book today.

Good luck!
