Advice on Keagal Exercises

I was recently diagnosed with minor uterine prolapse. I had heard of it before, and my doctor says it's because I have had several babies. Luckily, we had already decided we are done having kids, but I am interested in finding out from others with this condition what kind of keagal exercises really helped them and any other advice on helping the situation. Or even things that I shouldn't do so that my issue doesn't worsen. My doctor told me I will always have this medical condition but there are certain things you can do to stabilize the situation and maybe even improve it somewhat. I am only 37, so I want to do what I can to maintain my quality of life. When I found out I had this condition I started exercising on a more regular basis (mainly yoga and pilates so far), making more healthy food choices, and drinking more water. Any suggestions?

The kegel exercises are very good when done routinely, and you should see some improvement. I know that they work. Best of luck.

I am 38 had 3 big boys and the same situation. I will be reading all the responses. My doctor said to do kegels when you are at a stoplight, that way you will do them everyday. God bless!

Theres only one kind of Kegels that I am aware of. YOu just suck up your Va-J-J muscles and hold. They also make little round balls that are weights: vaginal weights. YOu can try those. I am sure they will be helpful, couldnt hurt. If worse comes to worse you can have the surgery where they lift it.
If you dont mind me asking, what kind of symptoms or issues are you having w/ your condition?

Hi L.. I am a physical therapist. So far, what you are doing sounds like the right start. For you to be able to notice a difference, stick with what you are doing for atleast 6 to 8 weeks. Muscle changes takes a long time. Also, keep in mind your goals from all the exercising and life changes. Are you in a significant amount of pain that you would like to decrease for daily life? If you think this is not getting better with what you have so far tried, Physical therapists are trained to help treat prolapse. Not all therapists have experience with it though. So it may take a little searching to find a physical therapist with that experience. My suggesstions, if you decide to go this route, would be to call local OBGYN's as well as urologists that may have a reccommendation or a referral for someone. Hopefully this helps!

I also have your condition. My doctor sent me to physical therapy and it helped me very much! In PT they taught me how to do the kegal exercises using a bio-feedback machine. This monitored my strength and helped me increase it. PT also taught me other exercises that strengthend the entire pelvic floor and abdomen. I was very pleased with the results. I have learned tools to control my condition for the rest of my life. AF

There is only one Kegel exercise. You squeeze tight the muscles in the peroneum, then release. To find the right muscles, try to stop the flow of urine when you are urinating. Those are the muscles you squeeze. You can do the exercise in sets of 10--squeeze and release 10 times. I recommend doing 10 sets at a time, but you can do as many as you have time for. You can do them standing, sitting, or lying.

You might also try homeopathics to strengthen the urinary system.

L., I posted about this a while ago asking about surgery for it. It is called the mini sling and my drs Jafri do it. Even though it can be done if you are not done having kids, I am opting till we are done and will get it done. A midwife relative said there is no reason not too and even if in 30 years you have to do it again, so what. I suggest a consult where they will test you to see if it is the I gotta gos or leaking. For me, I can't stand leaking all the time - it puts a big damper on my life. The Keagels have helped and even though I do so many, I still can't stop my urine flow- but its getting better. Hope this helps- and good luck.

L.,
There are several kinds of keagal exercises. The elevator one is very effective. You begin slowly, and then increase the intensity, then slowly decrease the intensity.
Also, search for a PT who specializes in pelvic floor issues.

I have five children myself but leave the silliness mostly to my husband!

Ben Wa Balls, small weighted exercise balls, help you pinpoint exactly if you are doing your Kegels properly and effectively. Designed in Asia, these have been around for over 2000 years and come in many different forms. Unlike the rectum, your vagina is a dead-end. That is, if you put the little balls there, they won't suddenly disappear. If you are doing your Kegels properly, when you stand up, the ball(s) will stay inside.

Also, there is more than one kind of Kegel. Your vagina is a muscle, set up like three rubber bands. You can learn to control each through a series of internal exercises. Dr. Laura Berman has pioneered in the study of women's sexual health and I've sat in some of her seminars:

If you have more questions about the balls, don't hesitate to ask me or your doctor. For just $15, the benefits are long-lasting and incredible. Prevents incontinence, helps with hemmorhoids, keeps the muscle strong, supple, elastic and oxygenated, and promotes longer and stronger orgasms.

Hope this helps!
