Advice for Baby Monitor

Hi All: Right now I have an almost 3.5 year old and we still have the baby monitor in her room. She doesn't get up very often but when she does, she'll sit in her bed and cry until we hear her and go in there. Pretty uncommon but it still happens. I can't hear her without the monitor because of a fan I need to sleep. Well I'm due in about 7 weeks to have another baby and I'm not going to buy another monitor. Any ideas how I can transition my 3.5 year old ( or more like me ) to not having a monitor in her room? I just hate the thought if not being able to hear her.

What can I do next?

you may noy have to. we set ours in the hall on a shelf between the 2 bedrooms, and it still picks up sounds through their closed doors. If you have that kind of option, it works well!

You could look for a used monitor at garage sales or gently used kid stores. Or could you borrow one from a friend? If any of your friends or family ask if you need anything for the new baby you could suggest a new monitor. There's no reason not to have one in each kids' room. Especially since you can't hear your older child without it.

My daughter is 5 1/2 and I still keep the monitor in her room because we also use a fan when we sleep (as does she) I see nothing wrong with peace of mind. I like to know that if she gets sick or has a bad dream that I will know. I would also suggest garage sales or second hand shops (once upon a child) to find a second monitor. I would also suggest using the better of the two for the new baby. We will be purchasing a second one in the next couples months as #2 will be joining us in August. Good luck!

It's garage sale season! Purchase a used monitor for really cheap (I've seen them many times for less than 10) and have some peace of mind!

My son will be 3 in May and I too still have a monitor in his room, we are on the other side of the house as his room and we need to keep our bedroom door shut to keep the cats out of our bed and I can't hear him one bit (sometimes I think I will have the monitor until her moves out  LOL) My husband HATES it, it must be a mom thing .

We are also due in October with #2, for Christmas my husband bought me a video monitor and you are actually able to hook up 2 different cameras to it so you can watch 2 different rooms at once, we will be getting that second camera soon.

But I think I would just keep the monitor in your daughter’s room until you are comfortable that she can sleep thru the night on her own. Maybe have the kids share a room for a bit or find a used monitor on craigslist or another site similar to that. They even sell new ones at the store for under $50, not sure on quality, but I think it would be good enough to get the job done.

Good Luck to you and your family and the new baby.

So It looks like everybody is saying the same thing...lol Our baby monitor broke when my daughter was 3 1/2. I went without for one night thinking we would be fine. In the morning I went out and bought a new one. Best $30 I ever spent!

Just the piece of mind was worth it.

Congrats on the new babe!
