My girlfriend who lives in Florida and I want to vacation together next summer. We have no idea where to go. We need to stay in the U.S. and we can't spend a whole bunch of money.

Any Ideas?

What can I do next?

South Beach in Miami! I LOVE that place. It is a little wild and out there but SO much fun. Be open minded and you will have a blast. Great shopping, food, people watching, etc.

I go at least once a year, sometimes by myself.

It depends on the kind of vacation you want, vegas is cheap if you go during the week. Naples, florida is beautiful and cheap during the summer(heat is terrible) also you can do a southern california spa trip, if you go to palm springs in summer you can get great rates and several of the spa resorts in that area, la quinta resort and club (not the motel chain) is an awesome place. A girlfriend of mine and I were there a few summers back and got a 259.00 a night rate that included two 50 minute treatments and a 50.00 dining voucher, per night it pretty much left the room for free just the massages/facials are normally 120.00 each.

K.,
I don't know if you are outdoors person, but the Smokey Mountains are right in between the two of you. I'm assuming you'll be taking the kids, they would enjoy it. I'm one of 4 girls and I still remember walking up the mountains, especially when you get to the top, just beautiful. Then you could even travel a couple days later to the beach, Virgina, Georgia. One summer vacation my parents did that. We camped out only one day at the Smokey Mountains then drove to Virgina Beach, we all liked that. Also, the Ozarks, you could probably share a cabin or something that you could cook your meals, maybe go out a couple times but for the most part just cook there. We rented a boat when we were there and had the time of our life.
Have fun wherever you go...

Arkansas is nice. I love Vegas, but I think Arkansas would be cheaper. Do you have any hobbies that intersect? Maybe a tour of Antebellum mansions in the south or a historical tour. New Orleans at this point is probably not ridiculously expensive.

Albuquerque, NM. It's not too far away, there is a range of activities from spas to shopping to hiking the Sandia mountains. Keep in mind if you go during the Balloon Festival (it's the biggest in the US, possible the world) all the hotels and B&B's will be booked or charging a premium. I think the Ballon-fest is in October.
