This is probably not the problem, but my pediatrician has told me not to use bubble bath in the tub. This can cause irritation and infections. And only to use cotton underpants. I think you are smart by bringing her to the doc. Better safe than sorry!

She calls it a rash because she itches. She may have a slight UTI and if so, the sooner it's treated, the better.

Hey Mom,

I think we may need more info....do you notice anything unusual? Is her tootoo red, have you inspected it closely? My 5 year old used to tell me her tootoo hurt, and it would be a little red. Nystatin cream took care of it, in a jiffy! I'm not sure though for your little one without more info!!

It could be a rash caused not by the urine but buy the kind of laundry detergent that you are using. Hat this problem with my daughter. Check and try a new one or maybe you did change already that could also be the problem. Good luck.

I have 3 girls, and they often complain about this type of irritation. The thing that seems to bring the most relief to them is A&D ointment. You can find it with the diaper rash creams. Also, try to make sure that she is doing a good job of cleaning herself after she uses the potty. Good luck!

Hi,we had the same problem. Try not letting her sit in any kind of soap at bath time. Bubbles, shampoo etc.

She may need more fluids or a little cranberry juice. She may have a little UTI because sometimes the urine burns. You may have to bring this up with the doctor for a check up and a round of antibiotics.

It may also be a yeast infection if it is irritating her like a rash or redness. One of my kids suffered with these when she was younger. She outgrew them. The doc saw her and recommended same vaginal cream a woman would use...the exterior cream only, not the cream that is inserted. Hope she feels better.

You might want to take her to the doctor and have a urine screen for urinary tract infection. A mild UTI would have symptoms like pain/itching with urination but no visible evidence on the outside.

It may be a Urinary Tracht Infection. It might burn when she urinates. I would definatley check with her Pediatrician.

A urinary tract infection could be the cause. It will cause stinging while she urinates. If it gets worse, she will feel like she needs to go potty frequently. Also, it could be the soap (or bubble bath, if you ever use it). It can cause stinging for 24 hours or so. If you suspect a UTI, definitely get her to the doctor before it gets worse. The only thing that makes me think it is not that is the fact that she is only complaining of the discomfort once a week.

Do not freak out.

She could have a yeast infection or a bladder infection. You should speak with your pediatrician. These are very common in young girls.

Maybe she is complaining about pain, and is just calling it a rash. She may have a urinary tract infection.

My daughter is the same way. She is highly sensitive in that area so any moisture gives her irritation. I am trying to teach her to wipe with wipy's and dry. Sometimes I use the diaper rash medicine it works right away and gone it is. I haven't found any thing yet so good luck and if you do please let me know because whe go through this all the time and it can be fustrating. It takes lots of patience. She does know that that area is very important so that I hope she pays attention when I am not there to help her.

If you don't see a rash she could be having burning when she pees and that could be a sign of urinary Tract infection or something like that. I would ask the Dr. about it.

I'm guessing UTI or vaginal infection - not uncommon for that age. Call your pedi.

If this is happening about once a week, take a note as to what she ate in the 24 hrs prior. Try to make sure she is not have anything with high fructose corn syrup, it is many things. If she drinks apple juice make sure it is organic. I think if it was a UTI, it would be an everyday thing. She could be sensitive to the chlorine in the toilet paper. Look for chlorine free tp from 7th generation or whole foods has there brand. Not as soft as conventional, but the idea is to pat. Her undies should be 100% cotton and should be washed with fragrant free detergent, I like 7th generation, borax or melaleuca. Also, make sure it is not after using bubble baths, soaps can be very harsh with chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate, # food coloring, lanolin, parabens, synthetics, and petroleum. If these are in it I pass on them, I would rather pay the extra money and use Baby Avalon, Aubrey, or California Baby. www.luckyvitamin.com sometimes has these products for less. I hope this helps. www.mybiopro.com/claudia13

What comes to mind is could it possibly be happening right after a bath? Sometimes with my little girl if the soap doesn't get rinsed away enough or if it's not mild soap she says "Mom I just had spicy pee." (You've got to love the way kids put things.) Get a super mild soap and rinse her very well down there and see how that goes.
