I switched my daughter to whole milk 2 weeks before her 1st birthday. a week later she started to get a yeast infection. she had never even had a diaper rash before so i was treating it like a diaper rash, well the cream wasnt working so i called the dr and thats how we found out it was yeast. they gave us nystatin and said to give her yogurt and acidophilus. that didnt work. we took her back the next week. we got prescribed something else. it worked but came back 2 weeks later. to make a long story short. she has had like 6 total ones since she turned 1. ive asked the dr could it be her milk. the dr has contiuously told us that no it wasnt her milk. so we didnt change it. now after doing some research im thinking it may be the milk!! has anyone had this happen before and what did you do??

What can I do next?

milk does have milk sugar in it.. and well YEAST love the sugar... I dont know that your child can take this supplement even if smashed into powder and then added to her bottle.. but for yeast infections I take a tablet of Capryl Acid (don't let the word acid scare you) .... anyway, I used to get chronic yeast infections that would not go away.. then someone recommended Capryl to me.. and BAM.. it works sooooooooooooo well... however, when taken you need to drink lots of water in order to flush out the dead yeast that it kills off in your intestinal track... again, not sure a little can take the stuff.. perhaps ask your doctor.. prescription drugs really can make yeast infections worse.. I think if you can get your daughter to drink more water than usual this will also help.. also keep in mind... things like yogurt have a lot of sugar in them as well... yeast which is a living thing, thrive on sugar, gluten, white flour, peanut butter (as often there is invisible mold you cannot see) fermented foods... and lastly.. fruit juices........ esp processed ones where the sugar is higher than freshly squeezed..
again, if you get her drinking lots of water to help flush the yeast out.. and limited any of the above foods.. I think she might do better.. also, consider raw milk... some scoff at it, but there are alternative docs who say it's ok.. you might want to read up on that to be sure..

p.s. as for the doc saying it isn't the milk.. problem with conventional docs in part is that they don't take many nutrition classes... consider this... what are cows fed??? GRAINS..... CORN ..... therefore, would make sense that they pass that thru into their milk supply..... corn is LOADED with sugar, even IF natural.. yeast love that sugar content. so in fact.. it could be the milk.....
best of luck

I agree. Stop the milk. Try soy. And continue with the yogurt or acidophilus. I can send you a link for a vitamin powder with prebiotic in it if you like. Probiotics are something I believe ALL of us should have in our daily diet (yogurt/acidophilus). I was having yeast infections and beginning on a good probiotic stopped it. I haven't had a yeast in years.

Try Soy products including Silk Live yogurt (has cultures but they aren't milk based). Give it 2 weeks (it takes a while to get dairy out of your system -- as I learned during nursing my milk-allergic daughter). If your little one doesn't take to the Soy milk, try Rice Milk (Rice Dream is what we use). My daughter is allergic to milk BUT we know another kiddo that got other symptoms from milk but wasn't allergic -- like fluid in his ears. It was only gone when he was off dairy. He eventually outgrew the milk issue by 3. Continue to use the nystatin or other yeast control creams though as well.

Good luck!

Stop the milk! If that is the only thing that changed before getting the yeast infection then stop the milk for a few weeks and see if it clears up. Make sure she is still getting healthy fatty food because she needs the fat and calories for proper brain development (that's why they put children on whole milk and not 2%). You can try her on whole milk yogurt the cultures in it may allow her to be able to eat it even thought the milk is bothering her. Avocados are also a great full fat food and most kids seem to love it. Contrary to popular belief there is absolutely no reason what so ever that kids need to drink milk. There are TONS of other food that contain calcium that are far, far better for your child than cows milk. Just a word of caution though, do no replace all of her milk consumption with juice as this will just feed the yeast that lives off of sugar. Plain old water is the best way to go and juice should be a treat at this age and always water it down.

Get a culture to confirm that it is yeast. If it is use some lotrimen (sp) over the counter stuff that helps with this. Also, try to let her skin to be exposed from time to time. Is her diaper too tight? If heat gets trapped in there and she sweats that can cause a yeast problem. What is her diet like? Back off on any juice and other sugars for now to clear up. Keep up the probiotics too. If she is on any antibiotics that will cause a yeast problem

Does the doctor do a culture that says it's yeast? If not it may not be yeast infections. It may be a reaction to the milk. I'd try not giving her milk and dairy products for a couple of weeks and see if it clears up. You can give her fortified rice milk. It's located in the health food section or the baking section of the grocery store in a sani-box.

I have a lactose intolerance and drinking milk gives me diarrhea. My granddaughter had a milk protein allergy which caused an eczema like rash.

Yes, it can be milk and a few other things. My older daughter had such a problem with yeast (she was an adult but things started in her teens) and she had also been diagnosed with bipolar. She loved milk and cheese. A LOT. It took months and months to get rid of the yeast with HIGH QUALITY probiotics, diet change (check for food sensitivities- IgG and IgA), LOW SUGAR, no refined carbs , and both over-the-counter oral anticandidal and repeated bouts of prescription anti-fungal medication (fluconazol). It's all gone now. There are many similar stories to ours. Even the "bipolar." See Bipolar and Off her Meds - http://itsnotmental.blogspot.com/2010/02/bipolar-and-off-... )

Now, even a little bit of cow dairy that they add to some pills, causes her problems (she tolerates goat dairy).

change her to 2% milk whole milk has sugar in it. take her off juices completely and since she is not eating food that is probably where it is comng from. whole wheat bread only no cookie unless they have diabetic sugar in them whole grain crackers and pasta and brown rice. now if you give koolaid use spenda only it taste better. I use arbonne diaper rash ointment. switch everything to sensative increase the protein. baking soda baths and change frequently. my son had them for almost a year straight and I got so obsessed I checked his diaper every minutes. and then I put him on a diabetic diet and boom it went away.and nystasin didnt work on my son and this is how I controlled it.

I used every diaper rash ointment on the market and what worked on my son jock itch meds and athletes foot meds and everything else suggested this was the only thing that worked and he has been rash free for almost 1 yr. :)

My daughter had a similar problem. Could it be the milk, maybe- in my daughter's case it was not. this is what I did.

Change her diaper frequently.

I used the formula below which is what the use in the nurseries in the hospitals. Not sure if you can get some of this OTC. I am in the medical field so I have access to this.

I used the highest concentration of Zn Oxide I could find 20%- ask the pharmacist - this may be behind the counter but not require a prescription.

Monastat (miconazole for vaginal yeast infections).

I used a product that was an acemannan gel- this is the active ingredient in aloe that contributes to its healing properties. IT is used for burns & severe wounds to aid in healing.

I would mix equal portions of each & slathered it on her at every diaper change.

There is an Rx cream called. Vusion- which is basically the same thing as what I used.

Probiotics certainly would help, but if you are going to eliminate dairy- go with goat, soy or coconut based yogart. Culturelle- is a probiotic that may be helpful.

It took quite some time for it to clear up for my daughter. She rear was Beet red!!!

I don't know if it is the milk but I do know if you blow dry her all over before putting the diaper back on it will help get rid of the infection. I do not have girls but my friend was having that same problem with her daughter and that is what she did and it worked. It can't hurt to give it a try.
